Folk Music Publisher Site

A custom publishing and e-commerce site for an independent folk music publisher whose business didn't map onto any existing platform.

Draft. Project in progress. Case study to be expanded after launch.

What the business needed

An independent music publisher with a long-running catalog had been running on a combination of an off-the-shelf website builder and manual operational processes. Each piece almost worked. Together they cost real hours every week. The business shape — selling books and recordings, presenting catalog work, handling correspondence with a niche audience — did not map onto any existing e-commerce or content platform.

The brief was a custom site that fits the business, not the other way around.

What I built

A custom publication and e-commerce site, including catalog presentation, content layout, and order handling. Designed to look like the publisher’s voice — not like a default template — and to be operable by a non-technical owner.

In progress. Going live in stages.

Stack / Approach

Astro for the site, with content authored in MDX. Custom content modeling so the catalog works the way the business actually thinks about it. Integrated payment and order flow. Hosted on a managed platform with the same boring-infrastructure choices as the rest of my work.

Trade-off worth naming: the site is mostly static where it can be — fast pages, durable hosting, very little to break — and dynamic only where the operational workflow genuinely needs it.

Outcome / What it taught me

Case study to be expanded after launch.
